Authentic North Indian Restaurant on Victoria Road
Chef Hari's approach to running this West Ryde Indian restaurant? Use proper techniques, don't rush things that need time, never water down flavours just because some people think that's what customers want. The tandoor oven is running every day—that's your traditional clay oven, which gets hotter than regular equipment and creates that smoky char you can't fake.
Every naan comes fresh for your order. Those specials on the menu? Not marketing speak - they're Hari's actual recipes he's spent years getting right. You'll find all the favourites (rogan josh, vindaloo, tikka masala), plus dishes like Railway Goat Curry and Hari Mirch Chicken that regulars specifically request when they dine here.
Our menu works for pretty much everyone at this Indian restaurant. Massive vegetarian selection, clear GF markers, vegan adaptations - we've thought it through. Seven days a week, BYO wine's fine with us (corkage won't sting), and whether you're solo or booking the whole function room, same deal applies: make it properly, make it taste brilliant.

Experience Our Indian Restaurant For yourself
One thing about this West Ryde Indian restaurant is consistency. Tuesday afternoon tastes the same as Saturday night. One curry or Indian catering for fifty, our kitchen standards won’t drop. That's what keeps people returning, bringing their mates, recommending us to their visiting relatives.
Full Table Service
Full table service in a setting that feels welcoming without being overly formal. Whether you're here for a Tuesday night catch-up or celebrating something special at our Indian restaurant, the approach stays the same - comfortable seating, staff who know what they're talking about, food that delivers.
Quiet date night? We can arrange intimate seating. Family with kids? High chairs sorted, menu has mild options for the little ones who aren't into spice yet. Eight mates catching up? Ring ahead, we'll push tables together.
Additionally, we offer BYO wine - bring whatever suits you. Staff can suggest what works with different curries if you're interested, but it's your call. Traditional Indian hospitality means looking after you without hovering or interrupting every five minutes.
Lunch Service That Fits Your Day
Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 3pm at our West Ryde location. Everything is cooked fresh when you order - no shortcuts, no reheating yesterday's batch. Menu is focused (vegetarian, chicken, lamb options with rice and naan) because we'd rather do a few things perfectly than spread ourselves thin.
Most people get their food within 20-25 minutes of ordering and you can order online in advance, This leaves you time to actually eat instead of rushing back to the office. Works well for business lunches in and around West Ryde. We are located on Victoria Road with parking just outside the venue.
Working nearby? Order online beforehand, walk in, collect, done. Usually in and out in under five minutes. We offer this practical solution when you're short on time but don't want to settle for a sad desk sandwich.
Dinner Service Is Where the Full Menu Opens Up
We’re open seven nights a week from 4pm onwards. This is when the complete North Indian menu is available, including all of Chef Hari's signatures that make us a destination restaurant in West Ryde.
Start with tandoori if you're doing it properly. Chicken tikka, seekh kabab, whole tandoori chicken if you're hungry - all from the clay oven with that char you only get from proper equipment. Fresh garlic naan on the side (also from the tandoor) and you're already winning.
Mains cover your classics done well - butter chicken with the right tomato-cream-spice balance, lamb rogan josh with those deep Kashmiri notes. But Hari's signatures are what separate this Indian restaurant from other restaurants in the area. Chicken Maharaja, Railway Goat Curry, Bombay Beef - these are regional recipes he learned in Indian kitchens, refined over years. We like to think it is proper regional cooking.
Biryani gets done right too. Actual layering, proper dum technique, comes with raita. Available in vegetable, chicken, lamb, goat, fish, or prawn. Each one is fragrant and fluffy like biryani should be - not just curry poured over rice!.
Vegetarian & Vegan Indian Restaurant Options
Our vegetarian menu is substantial. Paneer shows up in multiple ways - butter masala, palak paneer, kadai paneer. Dal options run from tadka (yellow lentils, bright and comforting) to makhni (black lentils, slow-cooked and rich).
Vegetable curries cover chana masala, aloo gobi, malai kofta, plus more. Many work for vegans naturally or adapt easily - just mention it when ordering at our restaurant. Indo-Chinese veg options (gobi manchurian, veg fried rice) give you completely different flavours when you fancy something beyond traditional curries.
Plant-based diners don't leave this Indian restaurant feeling like they settled for whatever was available. There is genuine variety here, dishes that taste good because they're actually made with love.
Gluten-Free Indian Restaurant Dining
Indian food fits surprisingly well with gluten-free diners when done properly. GF tags are clear throughout our West Ryde restaurant menu - no guessing required.
Rice dishes form the base. All biryanis work (vegetable, chicken, lamb, goat, fish, prawn), steamed rice variations, Indo-Chinese fried rice. Most curries are fine too - butter chicken, rogan josh, korma, vindaloo, tikka masala across veg, chicken, lamb, goat, seafood options. Gravies use onion, tomato, cream, yogurt, spices - no wheat thickeners.
Tandoori preparations come out of the clay oven gluten-free at our Indian restaurant. Tandoori chicken, chicken tikka, seekh kabab all work. We've got gluten-free bread alternatives too, replacing the wheat-flour naan.
Staff at our West Ryde location know what contains gluten and can guide you properly. While we can't promise a completely gluten-free environment (wheat flour's here for naan), we take proper precautions when you let us know about celiac or other intolerances.
Authentic North Indian Restaurant Specialities
We specialise in North Indian cuisine, which means going deep instead of covering everything superficially. Chef Hari's expertise sits squarely in his preparations, and that focus shows up in results.
The tandoor is central to authentic North Indian restaurant cooking. This traditional clay oven hits temperatures regular equipment can't match as it creates heat characteristics that define these dishes. That smoky char on chicken tikka, the texture of proper tandoori chicken, fresh naan with those characteristic bubbles and char marks - you only get that from the real thing.
Curries follow established recipes with proper spice blends at our Indian restaurant. Actual garam masala, not generic curry powder. Fresh curry leaves in Chettinad dishes. Whole spices where they belong. Kashmiri chillies for colour and mild heat in rogan josh. These details matter.
Biryani takes time and technique - partial rice cooking, layering with marinated meat or veg, sealed cooking so steam finishes everything and melds flavours together. Done properly, each grain stays separate, meat is tender throughou and the whole dish comes out fragrant and fluffy.
Chef Hari's signatures come from regional recipes learned through years in Indian kitchens, both here and in India. They've been refined but remain true to their origins - no fusion experiments, no westernising to make them "accessible." Just authentic regional cooking executed well, consistently, at our Victoria Road location.
Group Dining & Functions
We offer a private function room which can cater for groups from 12 guests right up to groups of 90 guests. We often cater for weddings, engagements, birthdays, corporate events and everything inbetween. Full table service, custom menus, buffets or table service.
We've got structured banquet menus that cover entrées through desserts if you want something straightforward. Prefer to customise your menu completely? No problem. Mixed dietary requirements across your group? Tell us who needs what - vegan cousin, gluten-free uncle, spice-averse niece - we'll make sure everyone's covered.
Same kitchen standards apply to functions as regular restaurant service. No separate setup, no dropping quality for larger numbers. For events at your venue, we do off-site catering with the same approach.
Smaller groups of 8-12 just dining in? Don't need the function room, just ring ahead so we can arrange tables properly at our Indian restaurant.
Why Choose New Yatra Indian Restaurant?
We believe a couple of things set us apart. Consistency is the big one - kitchen doesn't have off days because standards are maintained across every service. Tuesday lunch or Saturday dinner, one curry or feeding fifteen people, same quality.
Chef Hari's signatures give you something different from other Indian restaurants in Sydney. They are unique - actual dishes refined over years that regulars specifically request over and over.
Additionally, our function room is perfect for proper events without CBD pricing or logistics. Ninety-seat capacity, full catering, means hosting significant gatherings right here at our Victoria Road venue is easy and cost effective.
BYO wine with reasonable corkage makes a difference too. Combined with fair menu pricing, you're getting awesome value without sacrificing quality.
